Greyhounds snap 3-3 tie with four-goal third period to dump Spirit 7-3

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. - Defenceman Ryan Sproul scored a hat trick, with his third goal snapping a 3-3 tie in the third period, to lead the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds over the Saginaw Spirit 7-3 in Ontario Hockey League play on Monday.

Sproul scored twice in the opening period, both on the power-play, and the Greyhounds went ahead for good with a four-goal third period.

Brandon Alderson had two goals for Sault Ste. Marie, including one on the power play, while Sergey Tolchinsky also scored on the power play and Colin Miller rounded out the scoring for the Greyhounds (19-17-2).

Sault Ste. Marie goaltender Matt Murray meanwhile stopped 13 shots.

Jimmy Lodge, Jeremiah Addison and Garret Ross scored for the Spirit (15-18-5), while Nikita Serebryakov stopped 27 shots.
