QMJHL Roundup: Johnston, Penny each score twice to lead Wildcats past Rocket 6-1

Ross Johnston and Ryan Penny each scored twice Wednesday as the Moncton Wildcats thumped the P.E.I. Rocket 6-1 in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.

Alex Saulnier and Yannick Veilleux had the other goals for Moncton (22-12-1), while Conor Garland added three assists.

Ivan Barbashev chipped in with two assists of his own for the Wildcats, who got 25 saves from Alex Dubeau.

Ben Duffy had the only goal for P.E.I. (19-14-2), while Maxime Legace allowed six goals on 38 shots.

In the only other game in the QMJHL, Drummonville defeated Gatineau 3-2 in a shootout.

At Moncton, N.B., the Wildcats led 2-1 after the first period, but Johnston scored his second of the night just 45 seconds into the middle period to stretch the lead to two.

Penny added his first on a power-play at 17:48 and got his second at 11:01 of the third to make it 5-1.

Veilleux then rounded out the scoring just 2:29 later on another power play.

Moncton finished the night 2-for-6 with the man advantage, while P.E.I. was 1-for-2.

Voltigeurs 3, Olympiques 2

At Drummondville, Que., Guillaume Gauthier and Jerome Verrie scored in the shootout as the Voltigeurs (20-14-1) held off Gatineau (13-19-2).
