SAN ANTONIO - Abbotsford goaltender Barry Brust broke a 55-year-old American Hockey League record and the Heat went on to beat the San Antonio Rampage 3-2 in a shootout Saturday.
Brust allowed a power-play goal to Rampage forward James Wright in the second period, ending his shutout run at 268 minutes 17 seconds.
That surpassed the previous mark of 249:51 set by Hockey Hall of Famer Johnny Bower, who set the record with the Cleveland Barons in 1957.
Brust hadn't been scored on since Oct. 20 against the Chicago Wolves before recording three straight shutouts.
Quinton Howden had the other goal for San Antonio (4-9-3).
Brust finished with 26 saves, while Rampage goaltender Jacob Markstrom stopped 30 shots.
Byron gave the Heat a 1-0 lead just 5:14 into the game on the power play.
But San Antonio scored two quick goals in the second. Wright ended Brust's shutout streak at 16:36 before Howden scored at 18:11.
A goal by Olson with 14 seconds left in regulation saved Abbotsford, which went on to win a marathon shootout.
