BRAMPTON, Ont. - Barclay Goodrow scored twice, including the winner, as the Brampton Battalion defeated the visiting Guelph Storm 5-1 on Sunday afternoon in Ontario Hockey League play.
Patrik Machac, Mathew Santos and Brendan Childerley also scored for the Battalion (8-8-5).
Andrey Pedan scored the lone goal for the Storm (12-8-1), who have dropped back-to-back contests.
Matej Machovsky made 40 saves for the win as Garret Sparks turned away 32 shots in a losing cause.
Brampton went 1-for-4 on the power play while Guelph failed to score on seven chances with the man advantage.
“We played a simple game today and didn’t make many mistakes,” said Goodrow. “We had some strong penalty killing.”
Guelph opened the scoring at 14:10 of the first period when Pedan fired a slap shot from the top of the face-off circle that eluded Machovsky.
Brampton tied the game at 8:17 of the second period when Machac lifted a shot over Sparks from close range. A brief video review was conducted to confirm if the puck had indeed crossed the goal line.
Goodrow put the homeside ahead on a breakaway as he slipped a backhand shot five hole on Sparks and Childerley made it a 3-1 game after 40 minutes of play.
Goodrow added his second of the afternoon in the final period while Santos rounded out the scoring with a power-play goal in the final minute of regulation.
