PORTLAND, Ore. - Mac Carruth made 15 saves for his second shutout in four games and Ty Rattie chipped in with four assists Sunday as the Portland Winterhawks downed the Tri-City Americans 6-0 in the Western Hockey League.

Brendan Leipsic had two goals for Portland, while Chase De Leo, Seth Jones, Taylor Leier and Nicolas Petan also scored.

Portland chased Tri-City goaltender Eric Comrie thanks to three goals on 11 shots in the first 9:14 of the first period. Comrie had played every minute of the Americans' first 17 games until being replaced by backup Brenden Fiebelkorn, who stopped 29-of-32 shots in his Tri-City debut.

Rattie, a second-round pick of the St. Louis Blues in 2011, struggled early in the season, but has racked up 17 points in his last seven games for the Winterhawks.

The Americans were playing their third game in three nights, and looked weary against the Winterhawks, who hadn't played in eight days. Portland (9-3-1) is unbeaten in its last six in regulation, while Tri-City (9-6-2) has lost three straight.
