Anton Volchenkov is expected to miss up to six weeks because of a broken ankle, New Jersey Devils general manager Lou Lamoriello confirmed to Tom Gulitti of The (Bergen) Record.

Volchenkov is playing for Torpedo Nizhny Novgorod in the Kontinental Hockey League. The veteran defenseman had two goals and 11 points for the Devils in 72 games last season.

That was actually the most games he's played in a season since 2006-07. Volchenkov, one of the NHL's top shot blockers, has missed between 10 and 25 games with a myriad of injuries in the past five seasons.

Volchenkov has appeared in three games for Torpedo this season.
