QMJHL Roundup: A look at Friday's games

Josh Currie scored his second career hat trick, and added an assist to complete a four-point effort, as the P.E.I. Rocket defeated the visiting Moncton Wildcats 6-2 on Friday in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

Alex Micallef had a goal and two assists for the Rocket (1-0-0) while Victor Provencher and Ben Duffy added a goal apiece.

Alex Saulnier and Ross Johnston each scored for the Wildcats (0-1-0).

P.E.I. goaltender Maxime Legace made 31 saves for the victory while Alex Dubeau allowed six goals on 25 shots against for the loss.

P.E.I. went 2 for 5 on the power play while Moncton scored once on seven chances with the man advantage.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Halifax 4, Cape Breton 3 (OT); Saint John 3, Acadie-Bathurst 2 (OT); Quebec 9, Chicoutimi 4; Rimouski 5, Sherbrooke 1; Val-d'Or 4, Victoriaville 3 (SO); Baie-Comeau 4, Gatineau 1; Blainville-Boisbriand 5, Rouyn-Noranda 3; and Drummondville 4, Shawinigan 3.

At Charlottetown, Micalef opened the scoring with a short-handed goal with just one second remaining in the first period.

Currie scored another short-handed goal for the Rocket 40 seconds into the second period to extend his club's lead to 2-0.

Currie's second goal of the night came by way of the power play at 7:17, however Johnston responded with a power-play goal for the Wildcats at 12:33 to make it 3-1 P.E.I. after 40 minutes of play.

Duffy restored a three-goal lead for the Rocket 7:20 into the third period.

Saulnier scored for Moncton at 12:23, but Provencher added another power-play goal for the P.E.I. at 15:38. Currie scored his third goal of the night at 17:52.

With only 10 seconds remaining in the game, Rocket forwards Patrick McGrath and Matthew Bursey along with Wildcats' defenceman Danick Edmond and forward Kris Hodge all received game misconducts for fighting in the final five minutes of the game.

Mooseheads 4 Screaming Eagles 3 (OT)

At Sydney, Philippe Trudeau earned the game's first star by stopping 41-of-45 shots for Cape Breton, but Nathan MacKinnon scored 1:17 into overtime to lift Halifax (1-0-0) over the Screaming Eagles (0-0-1).

At Bathurst, N.B., Jonathan Huberdeau and Kevin Gange each had a goal and an assist for Saint John, however it was Oliver Cooper's goal 3:32 into overtime that lifted the Sea Dogs (1-1-0) over the Titan (1-0-1).

At Quebec City, Anthony Duclair had three goals and an assist to lead the Remparts (1-0-0) over Chicoutmi (0-1-0) while eight other teammates also recorded multi-point games, including Mikhail Grigorenko who had a goal and three assists.

At Sherbrooke, Que., Peter Trainor scored twice and Carl Hozjan turned away 28 shots as Rimouski (1-0-0) downed the Phoenix (0-1-0).

Foreurs 4 Tigres 3 (SO)

At Val-d'Or, Que., Brett Hester scored the winning goal in the shootout while teammates Michael Beaudry and Anthony Mantha added a goal and two assists apiece as the Foreurs (1-0-0) edged the Victoriaville (0-0-1).

At Baie-Comeau, Que., Valentin Zykov had a goal and two assists and Philippe Cadorette stopped 23 shots as the Drakkar (1-0-0) defeated Gatineau (0-1-0).

At Rouyn-Noranda, Que., Christopher Clapperton scored twice as Blainville-Boisbriand (1-0-0) came back from a two-goal deficit to beat the Huskies (0-1-0.)

At Shawingan, Que., Jeremie Malouin scored twice and Domenic Graham made 18 saves as Drummondville (1-0-0) slipped past the Cataractes (0-1-0).
