Burrows signs four-year extension with Canucks

Alexandre Burrows showed just how much he wants to be part of the Vancouver Canucks' core group, signing a four-year contract extension Friday.

Financial terms of the deal were not released, but TSN is reporting the contract has an average annual value of $4.5 million.

"Especially seeing guys like Kes [Ryan Kesler], Kevin [Bieksa] and the [Sedin] twins, they're all still going to be here for a while and that's really exciting," Burrows told the Canucks' website. "I know they're good players and really committed, they're working hard in the offseason to be in the best shape of their lives to come back and have another strong season and hopefully we win the ultimate prize."

Burrows, 31, was entering the final season of a four-year contract and would have been an unrestricted free agent following the 2012-13 season. Now, he's part of the Canucks through the 2016-17 season.

"I'm really excited," he said. "Me and my family really like it here in Vancouver, we like the organization, it's a team that wants to win and wants to win the Stanley Cup and that's exactly what I want to do. It makes sense for me to get a deal done and be here for another five years will be a lot of fun."

Burrows had 28 goals and 24 assists in 80 games last season. He also led the team with seven game-winning goals and was second with a plus-24 rating. He also had one goal in five 2012 Stanley Cup Playoff games.

He has at least 26 goals in four straight seasons, and at least 50 points in three of the last four.

In seven NHL seasons, all with the Canucks, Burrows has 139 goals and 131 assists in 522 games.
