NEWARK, N.J. -- The New Jersey Devils' top-ranked penalty kill this season is also the best in the NHL in the expansion era.

The Devils finished the regular season with an 89.6 percent success rate on the penalty kill, breaking the Dallas Stars' 12-year-old record of 89.3 percent. New Jersey allowed only 27 power-play goals on 259 times shorthanded.

"Whenever you can do something like that you definitely take pride in that," Devils defenseman Bryce Salvador said. "That's a team record so it starts from the coaching staff. It's one of those team records that everyone should be proud of."
