Seabrook out with upper-body injury

CHICAGO – Brent Seabrook left Sunday night's game at the United Center late in the first period and will not return for the Chicago Blackhawks after taking a hit from behind by Calgary Flames forward Rene Bourque.

The hit happened with 4:35 left in the first period and sent Seabrook headfirst into the boards in the Chicago zone. Bourque was assessed a five-minute major penalty and game misconduct for the hit, while Seabrook was helped off the ice and headed straight to the locker room for treatment. As the second period started, it was announced in the press box that Seabrook would not return because of an upper-body injury.

Seabrook, who missed four games earlier this season with a lower-body injury, has had three concussions in his NHL career. The most recent happened in the first round of last season's playoffs against the Vancouver Canucks – when forward Raffi Torres hit him behind the net in Game 3.

The Hawks lost that game to fall down 3-0 in the series, but the hit – which drew an interference minor on Torres but no suspension – sparked Chicago to tie the series before losing in overtime of the seventh game. Seabrook did return to play in that series.

The Blackhawks currently are without forward Daniel Carcillo, who suffered an upper-body injury last Wednesday against the Minnesota Wild.
