Playing on Black Friday has been a tradition for the Boston Bruins for two decades, but a whole new tradition will begin for the National Hockey League this year when the Bruins host Detroit on Friday afternoon. The matchup between the two Original Six rivals marks the first Discover NHL Thanksgiving Showdown and will be televised live nationally across the United States at 1 p.m. ET on NBC.

To complement NBC's television coverage, NHL.com and NBCSports.com will have the game covered from all angles, with fresh reports being churned out from on site during the game -- which will be streamed live on both NHL.com and NBCSports.com. NBCSports.com also streamed the NBC Game of the Week each Sunday during the 2010-11 season.

"The NHL and NBC have a great partnership and we are always looking for new events to help showcase this sport," said Sam Flood, Executive Producer for NBC Sports and Versus. "As a Boston native, I'm excited to take what has turned into a great local tradition -- a Bruins game on the Friday after Thanksgiving – and introduce it to national audience by airing it on NBC, and simultaneously starting our broadcast coverage earlier than ever."

In addition to being the first game presented on NBC as a part of the NHL's new 10-year partnership with NBC Sports Group, the game is the earliest NHL regular-season telecast on U.S. network television in more than 20 years.
