It took a period of overtime, but the Tri-City Americans are back in first place in the U.S. Division after beating the Kamloops Blazers 3-2 on Saturday in Western Hockey League action.

Justin Feser scored the winning goal for the Americans (16-6-0) while Malte Stromwall and Adam Hughesman scored in regulation.

“He gave (the puck) back to me, but it was a good thing he was waiting for the rebound," said Tri-City defenceman Derek Ryckman who assisted on Feser's winning goal.

Chase Schaber and Matt Needham scored for the Blazers (14-6-1).

Cole Cheveldave stopped 33 shots for the win while Ty Rimmer made 22 saves in defeat.

Both clubs went 1-for-6 on the power play.

The win moves the Americans two points ahead of the Portland Winterhawks with two games in hand.

Elsewhere in the WHL, it was: Moose Jaw 3, Medicine Hat 2; Swift Current 5, Brandon 4; Calgary 7, Prince Albert 1; Lethbridge 5, Edmonton 2; Saskatoon 2, Red Deer 1; Kelowna 4, Prince George 2; Vancouver 2, Everett 1 (SO); Seattle 6, Portland 3; Spokane 6, Regina 5 and Kootenay 8, Victoria 3.

At Kennewick, Wash., The Americans jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Hughesman and Stromwall scored just 30 seconds apart midway through the first period.

After a scoreless second period, Schaber put the Blazers on the board with a power-play goal at 2:25 of the third.

Needham scored at 13:28, completing the come back and, tying the game at two, forcing overtime.

Feser scored just 1:25 into the extra frame giving Tri-City the 3-2 victory.

At Swift Current, Sask., The Broncos (10-11-3) scored four times in the third period to come back from three goals down and beat Brandon (15-7-2).

At Calgary, Collin Bowman recorded a hat trick to lead the Hitmen (10-9-2) over Prince Albert (5-18-2).

At Lethbridge, Alta., Brady Ramsay scored a hat trick and an assist as the Hurricanes (5-18-1) defeated Edmonton (12-8-3).

At Red Deer, Alta., Lukas Sutter scored the winning goal late in the second period and Andrey Makarov turned aside 43 shots as Saskatoon (16-6-1) beat the Rebels (14-5-3).

At Prince George, B.C., Adam Brown turned aside 29 shots to lead Kelowna (8-11-3) to victory against the Cougars (6-15-2).

At Everett, Wash., James Henry scored the shoot-out winner and Adam Morrison made 23 saves as Vancouver (15-8-1) defeated the Silvertips (5-15-4).
