Ty Rimmer's stellar goaltending has helped the Tri-City Americans stay on top of the Western Hockey League's Western Conference.

Rimmer had his second shutout in his last three starts and the Americans scored three second-period goals en route to a 5-0 victory over the Vancouver Giants on Saturday.

Rimmer made 26 saves and improved his record to 5-1 this season with the sixth shutout of his career.

"Ty's been on a roll," said Tri-City coach Jim Hiller. "The game is always fun when you are on a roll. He had to make some big saves tonight, especially in the third."

The Americans are now 5-0 this season when they score the first goal of the game.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Kootenay 3 Prince Albert 1; Swift Current 9 Lethbridge 3; Red Deer 4 Regina 1; Medicine Hat 5 Calgary 0; Kamloops 3 Prince George 0; Spokane 3 Everett 1; Portland 6 Brandon 1; Seattle 4 Saskatoon 2; Tri-City 5 Vancouver 0; and Victoria 4 Kelowna 3 (OT).

At Kennewick, Wash., Adam Hughesman scored a pair of goals and Michal Plutnar, Jordan Messier and Malte Stromwall also scored as Tri-City (7-3-0) remained at the top of the Western Conference.

Patrick Holland and Connor Rankin each had two assists, and for Rimmer, it was the sixth shutout of his career.

The Giants (4-5-1) haven't won a regular-season game at Toyota Center since Dec. 13, 2008 — a streak of five games.

Adam Morrison, who allowed Tri-City's first four goals, finished with 25 saves. Jackson Whistle let in the only shot he faced in relief.
