Teemu Selanne wants to return to the Anaheim Ducks for another season, but lingering left knee problems are still hampering the 41-year-old and preventing him from making a decision on his future, according to a report.

In an email to Helene Elliott of the Los Angeles Times, Ducks GM Bob Murray said Selanne is still trying to strengthen his knee after offseason surgery. Ducks training camp opens Sept. 17 with players reporting for medical tests on Sept. 16.

"He is working out on and off the ice and trying to strengthen his knee. It's not quite where he wants it yet," Murray said Tuesday via email. "He wants to make a decision prior to training camp."

Murray said Selanne's eagerness to play is a positive sign, and the future Hall-of-Famer will continue skating and working out.

"I'm optimistic, but certainly understand him not wanting to commit unless the knee is straightened out," Murray said. "I'm going to talk to him again later this week and see how he is progressing."

Selanne had 31 goals and 80 points in 73 games last season for the Ducks.
