Penguins re-sign Jeffrey for two years

Dustin Jeffrey, who played a key role for the Pittsburgh Penguins last season after injuries ravaged their forward corps, signed a new two-year contract with the team Tuesday.

It is a two-way deal for the 2011-12 season and a one-way deal in 2012-13 with an average annual value of $575,000 at the NHL level.

Jeffrey scored 7 goals and finished with 12 points in 25 games -- all career highs -- for the Penguins last season. His season, like that of teammates Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, ended early as the result of a knee injury suffered March 24 against the Flyers.

A sixth-round pick in the 2007 Entry Draft, the 23-year-old Jeffrey has played 40 games with the Penguins over parts of three seasons, compiling 8 goals and 15 points.
