Weber can't explain Nashville's poor showing in Game 1

VANCOUVER, B.C. -- Predators captain Shea Weber led all skaters Thursday night with over 28 minutes of ice time as Vancouver edged Nashville 1-0 in the opener of their Western Conference Semifinal series.

Weber had two shots on goal and four hits in the loss. The 25-year-old had an excellent chance to tie things at one late in the third, but his shot from the faceoff circle sailed high above a wide-open net.

Afterwards, the All-Star defenseman talked with the media:

Q: What happened on the last-minute chance you had to tie things up?

A: I had the whole net to shoot at, I tried to get it under the bar and I just shot it a little too high.

Q: How good was Pekka Rinne tonight?

A: He was the main reason we were still in the game after two periods. Without him it could've been a lot worse and we wouldn't have had a chance to tie it up.

Q: Just four shots on five power play opportunities – how concerning is that?

A: I think our whole game is an area of concern right now. That was not Predators-style hockey, and we need to change things in a hurry.

Q: You guys had three days off before Game 1. Did that kill any momentum you had from beating Anaheim?

A: I don't know. I really can't explain it. There's no excuse for it, we should've come out harder and fresher than them. They played just two nights ago, but that wasn't the case.
