Lightning try to derail Devils

The Tampa Bay Lightning ended one eight-game winning streak on Wednesday. They'll try to snap another one when the New Jersey Devils, the NHL's hottest team, come to the St. Pete Times Forum for one of nine games on Friday's schedule.

The Lightning routed Phoenix 8-3 to end the Coyotes' eight-game winning streak. They don't figure to generate as much offense against a team that's coming off Tuesday's 1-0 win at Dallas and has allowed just 31 goals in a 16-1-2 surge.

The 7:30 p.m. ET start is the finale of Tampa Bay's 12-game homestand.

Friday's action begins with three games at 7 p.m. ET.

In Washington, the Caps host the New York Rangers at the Verizon Center in a game that can be seen in the United States on the NHL Network. The Caps have been off since Monday's 1-0 win at Pittsburgh; the Rangers won 4-3 in a shootout at Carolina on Tuesday.

Carolina stays home for a visit from Pittsburgh, which lost 3-2 in OT to San Jose on Wednesday. Phoenix moves on to Columbus, which blanked Nashville 4-0 on Tuesday.

In addition to the Devils and Lightning, two other games start at 7:30 p.m. Buffalo tries to build on Wednesday's 4-1 victory against Atlanta when Ottawa comes to HSBC Arena. The Senators continue to deal -- they traded Alex Kovalev to Pittsburgh on Thursday, less than 24 hours after beating Florida 5-1. The game can be seen on RDS in Canada. Atlanta moves on to Florida in a game between two teams that desperately need two points to stay alive in the Eastern Conference playoff race.

At 9 p.m. ET, San Jose visits Calgary, looking for its sixth win in a row. The Flames have been off since Tuesday's 3-1 home loss to Boston. Also at 9, Edmonton comes home after a 5-1 win at Colorado on Wednesday to host St. Louis.

Minnesota hopes to continue its road success when it visits Anaheim at 10 p.m. ET in the final game of the night. The Ducks have dropped three in a row, including Wednesday's 3-2 home loss to Los Angeles.
