Metric among performers at 2011 Heritage Classic

CALGARY -- Indie rockers Metric will perform during the second intermission of the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ between the Calgary Flames and the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, Feb. 20 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary. The band joins the entertainment line-up of Five for Fighting (pre-game), country music singer Paul Brandt (Canadian national anthem), country music duo Thompson Square (U.S. national anthem), and fellow rockers Tokyo Police Club (first intermission).

Originally formed in Toronto in 1998, Metric has been empowered by their innovative use of digital and mobile technologies.  The band has four albums under its belt, including the 2009 self-released and platinum-selling Fantasies (Metric Music International), earning the band two Juno Awards for Alternative Album of the Year and Group of the Year.  The band finished 2010 with the release of two major Hollywood films including "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," the latter of which's soundtrack has been nominated for a Grammy Award and landed Metric on the short list for an Academy Award nomination in 2011.

The 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic™ is the first NHL regular season game contested outdoors in Canada since the Edmonton Oilers hosted the Montreal Canadiens in the first NHL Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium on November 22, 2003. 

On Feb. 20, CBC and RDS will carry the 2011 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic live in Canada and VERSUS will telecast the outdoor match in the United States.  In addition to the standard and HD telecasts, the game is being distributed in next-generation 3D in Canada via CBC and in the U.S. via VERSUS.  On radio, Calgary’s Fan 960, Montreal’s CJAD (English) and CKAC (French) and Sirius XM's NHL Home Ice XM 204 and Sirius 208 (with Best of XM package in the U.S., only) will have all of the coverage around North America. NHL Network™ and NHL.com will provide extensive pre- and post-game programming.
