Chicago's Quenneville released from hospital

CHICAGO – Joel Quenneville was released from the hospital Saturday afternoon.

Quennevile was hospitalized Wednesday morning with a bleeding gastrointestinal ulcer and missed that night's game, as well as Friday's loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

"Joel was released from the hospital today and is resting comfortably at home," said Dr. Michael Terry, the team's physician. "We will continue to monitor him and still anticipate a full recovery. We are working to determine when it is best for him to return to his coaching duties."

The Hawks next play Sunday afternoon, against the Pittsburgh Penguins, in a NHL on NBC Game of the Week (3:30 p.m. ET) at the United Center. The Blackhawks media relations department did release an advisory Saturday stating that acting coach Mike Haviland will meet with reporters prior to Sunday’s game, suggesting that he will coach at least one more game.

Haviland had hinted at Saturday morning's practice that Quenneville could be released from the hospital soon.

Haviland spoke with Quenneville following Friday night’s 4-3 home loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets and again on Saturday morning before practice.

"As I know, this morning he was there," Haviland said. “Hopefully we'll get him back maybe later today.”

He qualified the statement by saying, “I don’t know. I’m hoping. That’s all I know.”

Quenneville has been hospitalized since Wednesday morning, after going to the emergency room late Tuesday night with severe discomfort that was later revealed to be the ulcer.
