Devils and Rangers renew rivalry

The New Jersey Devils should get an indicator of how much they've improved when the New York Rangers come to town Thursday night.

The Rangers have won the first three meetings this season -- but that was before the Devils' recent surge, which has seen them go 7-1-1 in their last nine games, including a 2-1 win against Ottawa on Tuesday. The Rangers are coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to Pittsburgh on Tuesday.

The Rangers-Devils game is one of six in Thursday's NHL schedule -- all but one of which get under way at 7 p.m. ET.

Boston comes home after Tuesday's 3-2 win at Carolina to host Dallas. The Stars, who are making only their third trip to TD Garden since 2003, lead the Pacific Division despite Tuesday's 4-1 home loss to Vancouver. Carolina will try to bounce back when it visits Toronto, which beat Florida 4-3 in a shootout on Tuesday. That game can be seen in Canada on RDS and TSN.

Philadelphia returns home after Tuesday's 4-0 loss at Tampa Bay to host Nashville, which lost 3-2 to Calgary in a shootout at home on Tuesday. The Flames move on to Atlanta, where the Thrashers are trying to hang on to the last playoff berth in the East -- Tuesday's 4-1 loss to the Islanders didn't help.

Colorado plays its first game since the All-Star break when it hosts Minnesota at 9 p.m. ET. The Avs were supposed to play at St. Louis on Tuesday, but the game was postponed due to the storm that battered the Midwest. The Wild did play Tuesday -- they beat Los Angeles 1-0 in a shootout.
