Rangers-Islanders rivalry highlights six-game Monday

It's always a festive mood when the New York Rangers face off with the New York Islanders, though it's not likely the Atlantic Division rivals will be exchanging much in the way of holiday cheer when they meet Monday night at Madison Square Garden as part of a six-game NHL schedule.

The Islanders, who won their third in a row Sunday against the Canadiens, will try to extend their streak at the expense of the Rangers in the opening game of the night. The first puck drops shortly after 7 p.m.

A pair of games get under way at 7:30 p.m. The Columbus Blue Jackets host the Minnesota Wild, with each team coming off a 4-1 loss on Sunday, while the Boston Bruins travel to take on the Florida Panthers in a battle between teams that got an extra day off to enjoy their Christmas presents and digest their holiday meals.

At 9 p.m., fans will be treated to the latest installment between the Colorado Avalanche and the Detroit Red Wings, who meet at the Pepsi Center. Meanwhile, in a cross-conference showdown, the Calgary Flames welcome in the Buffalo Sabres. Goalie Ryan Miller, should he start for the Sabres, would be seeking his 200th NHL win.

Finishing up the night's action at 10:30 p.m., the San Jose Sharks host the Los Angeles Kings in a Pacific Division
