Laperriere gets his own commercial

This was one commercial where the actor involved didn't need to memorize a script.

On Sunday at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia forward Ian Laperriere took park in a TV spot conceived and produced by Versus. The commercial focuses on Laperriere's dive to block a shot from the point from then New Jersey Devils defenseman Paul Martin during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals series that saw him stop the puck with his face – he was struck just above the eye and missed 10 games.

Having already lived the incident once, Laperriere didn't need to memorize a script. But he said re-enacting the moment over and over again didn't exactly cause a sense of déjà vu.

"I don't know," Laperriere told the Flyers' website. "I think when it's going to be all together and I'm going to see the commercial come out, I think it will bring it back a little more when it really happened. But for today, there were too many cuts for me to be in that moment again."

"They made it easy," Laperriere said of the Versus crew. "It was a great experience. Those guys made it fun. It didn't feel like you were there for four hours."

The spot will run nationally on Versus in the near future as it prepares to begin coverage of the 2010-11 season – the network's sixth consecutive year as a national broadcast partner of the NHL.
