The Columbus Blue Jackets avoided arbitration with Anton Stralman on Wednesday by signing the defenseman to a one-year contract.

Stralman, 24, led the Blue Jackets' defensemen with 34 points and set career highs in points, goals (6) and assists (28), while averaging 20:29 per game. He also was second on the team in power-play scoring with 22 points.

"We are pleased that we were able to come to a negotiated settlement," Blue Jackets General Manager Scott Howson said. "We look forward to having Anton back on our blue line this season."

Stralman joined the Blue Jackets on Sept. 28, 2009, from the Calgary Flames in exchange for a 2010 third-round pick. A 2005 seventh-round pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs, he has 56 points in 161 NHL games.
