Bruins re-sign Stuart to one-year deal

Defenseman Mark Stuart, a former first-round pick of the Boston Bruins in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, has signed a new one-year contract with the club, it was announced Friday.

The 26-year-old Stuart played in 56 games for Boston last season, registering 2 goals and 7 points. He missed 26 regular-season games and eight postseason games with a broken left pinky finger that subsequently developed an infection. He returned to go scoreless in four playoff games.

During his 2008-2009 campaign, Stuart set career highs in goals, assists and points as well as tying his career high in games played, registering 5 goals and 17 points in 82 games. He added an assist in 11 postseason games. He has spent his entire career within the Bruins organization, and had played in 234 consecutive games prior to his injury last year.

Stuart is a veteran of 252 NHL regular season games and has compiled 12 goals, 35 points and 261 penalty minutes. He has added 2 assists in 22 playoff games.

The 6-2, 213-pound native of Rochester, Minnesota, was selected by Boston with the 21st pick back in 2003.
