Report: Willie Huber dead at 52

Former NHL defenseman Willie Huber died suddenly Monday according to the CBC and the Hamilton Spectator.

The cause of death for Huber, 52, was a suspected heart attack.

Huber, 6-foot-5, won a Memorial Cup with the 1976 Hamilton Fincups, a team that included other future NHLers such as Dale McCourt, Ric Seiling, Al Secord and Al Jensen.

Huber was drafted with the ninth pick of the 1978 Entry Draft by the Red Wings and spent five seasons in Detroit. Beginning with his sophomore campaign, he averaged 15 goals and 29 assists over the next four seasons.

Huber also played for the New York Rangers, Vancouver Canucks and Philadelphia Flyers and finished his NHL career with 655 games, 104 goals and 217 assists.

He is survived by his wife and two teenage children.
