Hawks tie record for road winning streak

Here's a good omen for Cup-starved Chicago fans: You're in good company after the Hawks extended their road winning streak in this year's playoffs to seven games with a 4-2 victory at San Jose on Tuesday night.

The Blackhawks, who haven't won a Stanley Cup since 1961, became the fifth team in NHL history to win seven consecutive road games in one playoff year -- joining some pretty elite company. Three of the previous four teams to do so went on to win the Stanley Cup.

The Hawks lost their first road game of this year's playoffs at Nashville, but won the last two at Bridgestone Arena before going 3-0 at Vancouver in the conference semifinals and opening with back-to-back wins at San Jose in the Western Finals.

The 1980 New York Islanders set the record, winning their first seven road games on the way to their first of four consecutive Cups. The 1982 Isles matched that mark -- this time winning their last seven road games, including two each while sweeping the last two rounds.

The 1995 New Jersey Devils also won their last seven road games, including three in the conference final and two more in the Stanley Cup Final. Four years later, the Avs won their first seven road games, including a Game 1 victory at Dallas in the Western Conference Finals. But the Stars won Game 2 at home to end the streak and wound up beating the Avalanche 4-1 at Colorado in Game 6 and 4-1 in Dallas to win Game 7 on the way to winning the Stanley Cup.
