Campagna's three points leads Sarnia Sting to 8-3 upset of Windsor Spitfires

The Sarnia Sting ended their regular season on a high note with a surprising victory.

JC Campagna scored twice and added an assist as the Sting shocked the Windsor Spitfires 8-3 in Ontario Hockey League action Saturday night.

Sarnia finished the season with the worst record in the OHL, winning only 17 games and earning a total of 39 points. The Sting last won on Feb. 19 in a 5-0 rout of the Owen Sound Attack.

Windsor is the top seed in the Western Conference and are the reigning Memorial Cup champions.

The Spitfires rolled out a short bench with just 14 skaters. Stars Taylor Hall, Ryan Ellis, Cam Fowler, Greg Nemisz, Eric Wellwood and Adam Henrique did not play.

Elsewhere in the OHL it was: Erie 8 London 3; Niagara 8 Belleville 1; Peterborough 10 Oshawa 3; Saginaw 3 Kitchener 0; Barrie 4 Kingston 2 and Guelph 3 Owen Sound 0.

At Sarnia, Ont., Kale Kerbashian had a goal and two assists for the Sting (17-46-5), while Daniel Broussard, Nathan Chiarlitti, Braden Kavaratzis, Peter Stevens and Miroslav Preisinger added goals.

Zack Kassian had a pair of goals for Windsor (50-12-6), while Dale Mitchell also scored.

Otters 8 Knights 3

At Erie, Pa., Anthony Luciani's hat trick led the way as the Otters downed London.

Mitch Gaulton and Shawn Szydlowski both had a goal and two assists for Erie (33-28-7), while Zack Torquato added a goal.

Michael MacDonald scored twice for the Knights (49-16-3), while Justin Taylor had a goal.

IceDogs 8 Bulls 1

At St. Catharines, Ont., Freddie Hamilton scored twice and added three assists as Niagara crushed Belleville.

Alex Friesen and Reggie Traccitto both had a pair of goals for the IceDogs (26-33-8), while Andrew Agozzino had a goal and added three assists. Michael Hasson also scored.

Richard Panik was the only scorer for the Bulls (20-40-8).

Petes 10 Generals 3

At Peterborough, Ont., Matt Puempel had a hat trick and three assists as the Petes rocked Oshawa.

Pat Daley scored twice and added four assists for Peterborough (29-35-4), while Joey West had a pair of goals. Austin Watson scored and had five helpers, while Luke Hietkamp and Jamie Doornbosch also scored.

Jimmy McDowell opened scoring for Oshawa (24-39-5) with a power-play marker 1:53 into the first period. Tyler Taylor and Jeff Hayes had the other goals for the Generals.

Spirit 3 Rangers 0

At Saginaw, Mich., Edward Pasquale turned aside 38 shots as the Spirit blanked Kitchener.

Anthony Camara and Ivan Telegin scored for Saginaw (33-27-7), while Michael Sgarbossa had an empty net goal for some insurance.

Mike Morrison made 29 saves for Kitchener (41-19-7).

Colts 4 Frontenacs 2

At Barrie, Ont., Matt Kennedy and Alex Hutchings both had short-handed goals as the Colts sprinted to a win over Kingston.

Bryan Cameron's goal staked Barrie (57-9-2) to a 3-0 lead until mid-way through the third period. Taylor Carnevale also scored.

Corey Durocher and Michael Farrell replied for Kingston (33-29-5).

Storm 3 Attack 0

At Owen Sound, Ont., Brandon Foote stopped all 41 shots he faced as Guelph dropped the Attack.

Peter Holland had back-to-back goals for the Storm (35-29-4), while Adam Comrie also scored.

Jordan Binnington made 27 saves for Owen Sound (27-33-8).
