Canucks deal for Alberts

Vancouver Canucks President and General Manager Mike Gillis announced today that the Canucks have acquired defenceman Andrew Alberts from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for a 2010 third-round draft selection.

Alberts, 28, has played in 62 games this season for the Carolina Hurricanes, registering 10 points (2-8-10), 74 penalty minutes and a plus-7 ranking. The Minneapolis, MN, native has played in 325 NHL games, collecting 42 points (4-38-42) and 366 penalty minutes. In eight NHL playoff games he has registered one point (0-1-1) and 10 penalty minutes.

The 6'5", 218-pound defenceman was originally drafted in the sixth round, 179th overall by the Boston Bruins in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
