The Chicago Blackhawks added to their blue line on Tuesday by acquiring defenseman Nick Boynton from the Anaheim Ducks for future considerations and have assigned him to Rockford, their AHL farm team.

Boynton, a 31-year-old signed as a free agent by the Ducks in July, had been playing with the AHL Manitoba Moose. He was assigned to the minors last month after passing through waivers.

Boynton appeared in 42 games for the Ducks this season, scoring a goal and adding 6 assists for 7 points with a plus-1 rating and 59 PIM. The native of Nobelton, Ontario, has played 10 NHL seasons with Boston (2000-06), Phoenix (2006-08), Florida (2008-09) and Anaheim (2009-10). He has 33 goals, 135 points and 810 PIM in 547 career NHL games.
