Toronto defenseman Mike Komisarek’s shoulder injury will require season-ending surgery that will keep him from playing with Team USA at the Winter Olympics this month. The Leafs said Wednesday that no date for the surgery has been determined at this time.

"Our team doctors have recommended this after a determined effort to rehab the injury without surgery. Having this done immediately is the right thing to do for the Leafs. I am truly sorry that I will not be able to represent my country at the Olympics," Komisarek said in a statement.

Komisarek signed with the Maple Leafs as an unrestricted free agent on July 1, 2009. he has 3 assists and 40 penalty minutes in 34 games, but hasn't played since Jan. 2 at Calgary.

The 28-year-old was named to the U.S. Olympic Team on Jan. 1. He's the second defenseman to be lost to Team USA due to injury this week -- New Jersey's Paul Martin withdrew Monday due to a broken left forearm that has been slow to heal.
