New Brunswick's Patrice Cormier named captain of Canada's junior hockey team

REGINA - Patrice Cormier will be the captain of Canada's hockey team at the 2010 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Cormier of Cap-Pele, N.B., is the first New Brunswick native to be named captain. Cormier has 11 goals and 15 assists in 28 games with the Rimouski Oceanic this season.

Team Canada also announced Saturday that Jordan Eberle of the Regina Pats, Stefan Della Rovere of the Barrie Colts, Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires, Alex Pietrangelo, a St. Louis Blues prospect, and Colten Teubert of the Pats will serve as rotating alternate captains.

Canada plays its first game of the tournament Dec. 26 against Latvia.
