Canucks' Daniel Sedin out 4-6 weeks

The Vancouver Canucks suffered a major blow on Saturday, as they learned they will be without talented winger Daniel Sedin for 4-6 weeks after taking a shot on the foot on Wednesday against the Montreal Canadiens. X-rays confirmed the injury after Sedin had X-rays on Friday.

"I took a shot off the foot in the second period last game," Sedin said. "I kind of felt right away that something was wrong but we did an X-ray between the second and third period and nothing showed. The next day it was still kind of sore so we had another X-ray done and put the cast on (Friday). It's unfortunate, but I've been lucky so far over the past nine years, so I guess it was bound to happen."

Daniel and twin brother Henrik Sedin have been two of Vancouver's best players in the early going this season. Daniel has yet to score, but he does have four assists in as many games.

"It's probably the best we've felt at the beginning of the season," Daniel said. "We're skating really good and feeling really good on the ice so it's really disappointing but at the same time, it's going to happen and you can't really be too down."

Added Henrik: "He's a good player but we've got lots of good players here. Guys just need to step up and really shoot the puck."

With Daniel on the injured reserve, Steve Bernier will skate alongside Henrik on Sunday night when the Canucks host the Dallas Stars at GM Place.

"I've got big shoes to fill but I'm here for a reason and it's to do my job on the ice and try to help Hanky and Burr to score goals," Bernier said. "That's the only I'm going to think about so I'll do the best I can and good things can happen."
