Advantage Margin -36

Much of the Flames' difficulty on the road can be attributed to a lack of discipline. They earned just 154 advantages on the road while surrendering 203, the fourth highest total in the NHL.

Even-Strength Goals Margin +14

Jarome Iginla scored 35 of his 50 goals and 65 of his 98 points while at even strength. Nine of the Flames' top-10 scorers had positive plus-minus numbers, led by Iginla's plus-27.

Special Teams Goal Margin -12

The Flames were 19th on the power play and 21st in penalty killing, but the bundle of extra power-play chances their opponents got on the road took a toll -- Calgary was outscored 42-30 on the power play away from the Pengrowth Saddledome.

Goals by defensemen 36

Dion Phaneuf (17 goals, 60 points) is one of the NHL's premier defensemen. Adrian Aucoin (10-25-35), acquired from Chicago after two disappointing seasons in Chicago, experienced a career rebound.

Overtime Record     Total: 6-7-3 | OT: 3-7 | SO: 3-3

The Flames went beyond regulation at home 10 times last season  and lost a League-high nine of those games, including all seven decided in OT. On the road, they won all three overtime decisions and were 2-1 in shootouts.

Times Scored First 44, Record 29-11-4

The Flames scored first in 25 of their 41 road games, second in the NHL to San Jose, and went 17-7-1 in those games. But in the other 16, they were only 4-12-0.

Best 07-08 Number 23-8-4

The Flames' combined record on Tuesdays and Saturdays. They were a League-best 13-4-2 on Tuesdays and 10-4-2 on Saturdays. The Flames had 50 points on those two days, but just 44 on the other five.

Worst 07-08 Number 4-10-0

Calgary's record in November. The Flames had a winning mark in every other month, but a poor showing in the season's second month consigned them to seventh in the West.

Scheduling

The Flames have 12 of 16 games at the Pengrowth Saddledome from Dec. 19 through the end of January. But 13 of their last 20 games are on the road, including a seven-game Eastern trip that begins March 3.
