• Cornel finished third in team scoring for Peterborough of the Ontario Hockey League during the 2013-14 season with 62 points (25-37—62) in 68 games, often lining up alongside Nicholas Ritchie (No. 7-ranked North American skater) on the top line. He added seven points (4-3—7) in eleven postseason games, including five points (4-1—5) in the Petes’ seven-game upset over Kingston in the opening round.

• In 2013-14, Cornel registered two five-point games earning (2-3—5) in a 6-2 win over North Bay on January 11, 2014 and (1-4—5) in a 7-6 loss to Kingston on February 7, 2014.

• He notched three assists in five games for Team Ontario at the 2013 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

• Growing up a Senators fan, his childhood hockey idol was Marian Hossa. A minor hockey coach once nicknamed him “Hossa” because he saw similarities in their skating style.
