• In 2012-13, he led the Spitfires and scored 40 goals for the second consecutive season finishing tied for eighth in the Ontario Hockey League with 87 points (40-47--87) in 68 games and surpassing his 2011-12 points total (41-33--74) in 68 games.

• He is the son of former NHLer, Warren Rychel. Warren was never drafted, but earned his way to the NHL through the now-defunct International Hockey League. He played for Chicago, Los Angeles, Toronto, Colorado and Anaheim -- winning a Stanley Cup with Colorado in 1996 -- and finished his career with 1422 penalty minutes in 406 games. He is now the part-owner and general manager of the Spitfires.

• Rychel won bronze with Team Canada at the 2012 Under-18 World Championship, tying for the team lead in goals (5), and won gold as an alternate captain at the 2011 Under-18 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament.

• Rychel had a goal and an assist and was selected as Player of the Game in leading Team Ontario to a 5-3 victory over Team USA in the gold-medal game of the 2011 Under-17 World Hockey Challenge. He recorded three goals and four assists for seven points at the tournament.

• Prior to making the jump to the OHL, Rychel had 30 goals and 49 points in 55 games for the Detroit Belle Tire minor midgets.
