• Thompson, the third-youngest player in the NCAA in 2015-16, led the nation with 13 power play goals and finished fourth among Hockey East freshmen with 32 points (14-18—32).

• In 2014-15, Thompson played with the U.S. National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich. and graduated from high school a year early receiving the National Young Leaders Award and Presidential Academic Award.

• His father, Brent Thompson, was selected in the second round (39th overall) by the Kings in the 1989 NHL Draft and played 121 games over six NHL seasons. He has coached within the Islanders organization since 2011-12, including three seasons as head coach of their American Hockey League affiliate, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.

• Internationally, Thompson helped the U.S. win a gold medal at the 2015 Under-18 World Championship. He also earned a bronze medal at the 2016 World Junior Championship.
