• Schmaltz, who will attend the University of North Dakota, is the first player since the 1994-95 season (Scott Swanson, Omaha Lancers) to be named to the All-USHL First Team in consecutive seasons.

• He split the 2011-12 season between the Sioux City Musketeers and Green Bay Gamblers, ranking second among USHL defensemen with 41 points (10-31--41) in 55 games. Schmaltz played 46 of games for Green Bay, leading the team’s defensemen in assists, points and power-play goals (five). He added seven points (2-5--7) and had a plus-10 rating in 12 playoff games for the Clark Cup Champions.

• In 2010-11, he had a 10-game point streak and registered 20 points in his final 13 games of the season to finish his rookie year as the USHL’s highest-scoring defenseman (13-31--44). For his efforts, Schmaltz was named to the 2011 USHL All-Rookie Team and All-USHL First Team.
