• Benson was selected first overall by the Giants in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft. In his first full season with the club in 2014-15, he finished fifth on the team with 14-31—45 in 62 games.

• Internationally, Benson was part of Canada’s gold medal entry at the 2015 Ivan Hlinka Memorial (2-4—6 in 5 GP) and helped his country earn bronze at the 2015 Under-18 World Championship (1-3—4 in 7 GP).

• He averaged almost five points per game in his final year of Bantam AAA with Edmonton’s Southgate Lions (57-89—146 in 33 GP), shattering the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League record for points in a season set by current St. Louis Blues forward Ty Rattie in 2007-08 (75-56—131 in 33 GP). His record-breaking campaign earned him AMBHL Most Valuable Player honors in 2012-13.
