NEWARK, N.J. -- Left wing Mike Cammalleri will return to the lineup for the New Jersey Devils against the Calgary Flames at Prudential Center on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; SNF, MSG+).

Cammalleri, who practiced for the second straight day Tuesday, has missed the past eight games with a hand injury sustained in a 3-0 win at the Ottawa Senators on Dec. 30. Cammalleri leads the Devils with 35 points (14 goals, 21 assists) in 38 games.

"I'm excited to be back at it and obviously it's Calgary, so that adds to the fun of the game," said Cammalleri, who played for the Flames in 2008-09 and again from 2011-14. "I've been out eight games, two weeks, and had just one full practice, so we'll jump right in and see what happens. I'm ready for the challenge."

The Devils have been outscored 18-11 minus Cammalleri the past eight games and are 0-for-17 on the power play the past seven games, so needless to say Devils coach John Hynes is happy to have him back in the lineup.

"I think it gives us balance on our top two lines and solidifies some continuity on the power play, where Mike does a good job of helping us on breakouts," Hynes said. "It's nice to have those components and he's a leader in the locker room and a good voice."

Calgary forwards Jiri Hudler (lower body, missed four of five games) and Joe Colborne (healthy scratch, two games) and defenseman Ladislav Smid (healthy scratch, four games) will return to the lineup. Forwards Josh Jooris and Brandon Bollig and defenseman Deryk Engelland will be healthy scratches.

Devils goaltender Cory Schneider, who will make his third straight start, has a 1.51 goals-against average and .947 save percentage since Dec. 30. He is 4-5-0 with a 2.10 GAA and .932 save percentage against the Flames.

Calgary opened a season-long five-game road trip with a 2-1 shootout loss at the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday.

New Jersey native Johnny Gaudreau, born in Salem, leads the Flames with 19 goals, 24 assists, five game-winning goals and 43 points in 43 games. The fourth-round pick (No. 104) in the 2011 NHL Draft has two goals and four points in the past four games.

"He's a little tiger," coach Bob Hartley said of Gaudreau. "He has very high expectations of himself. He's on the puck and wants to contribute. It's quite a treat to watch him on the bench; whether it's going on a power play or a regular shift or 3-on-3, you can see sparks in his eyes and you can't teach this.

"He doesn't accept mediocre performances and he takes pride in his entire game; that's what makes him special."

Calgary goaltender Jonas Hiller will make his third straight start. He is 2-2-2 with a 2.29 GAA and .912 save percentage in six games against New Jersey.
