DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 18

Monday, 01.18.2016 / 1:22 PM | Eric Goodman  - NHL.com Fantasy Staff Writer

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Jack Eichel, C, Buffalo Sabres

DraftKings price: $5,400

Eichel leads all NHL rookies and Buffalo with 141 shots on goal through 45 games this season and should be a good value pick on the road Monday against the Arizona Coyotes. The second-line center is scoreless in the past three games, but DraftKings owners can expect him to bounce back against Arizona. He had an assist, two blocked shots and four SOG in a 5-2 win at home against the Coyotes on Dec. 4.

Jonathan Huberdeau, W, Florida Panthers

DraftKings price: $5,500

Huberdeau and similarly priced Panthers players are wise choices when the team hosts the Edmonton Oilers. The fourth-year forward brings added value to DraftKings owners because he skates on Florida’s first line at even strength and on the power play. Edmonton is averaging 2.89 goals against and 31.1 shots against per game through 46 games this season. In five career games against the Oilers, he has three points (one goal, two assists), four blocked shots and 12 SOG, including a goal on his only shot in a 2-1 win at the Oilers on Jan. 10.

Trevor Daley, D, Pittsburgh Penguins

DraftKings price: $3,500

It’s tough to gauge whether a brief offensive spark from a defenseman will turn into a fire, but the affordable price on Daley makes him a low-risk option against the St. Louis Blues. The veteran defenseman has goals in back-to-back games and continues to see ice time at even strength and on the power play. While there are plenty of dependable, more expensive defensemen in the draft pool Monday, taking the chance on Daley has the potential to reap big rewards for owners.

Al Montoya, G, Florida Panthers

DraftKings price: $7,200

Montoya has been one of the most dependable backup goaltenders this season with a 7-1-1 record and 1.71 goals-against average through 11 games, including a five-game winning streak. The last time Montoya lost a game that he started was Nov. 5 against the San Jose Sharks. Owners should have full confidence in the veteran on Monday as he seeks to duplicate a 24-save effort that resulted in a 2-1 win at Edmonton on Jan. 10th.
