DraftKings daily fantasy value picks for Jan. 11

Monday, 01.11.2016 / 1:26 PM | Eric Goodman  - NHL.com Fantasy Staff Writer

Each day during the 2015-16 season, NHL.com's fantasy staff will identify one player at each position worth owning in DraftKings daily fantasy hockey contests. Based on factors including but not limited to matchups, line combinations, power-play usage, statistical coverage and recent production, we'll provide you with lower-priced options that can help you build a winning lineup.

Players accumulate points in DraftKings for each goal (3 points), assist (2), shot on goal (0.5), blocked shot (0.5) and shootout goal (0.2). Bonuses are given for shorthanded points (1) and hat tricks (1.5). Goalies accumulate points for each win (3) and save (0.2), and lose a point for each goal allowed. Goalie bonuses are given for a shutout (2) where the goalie completes the entire game with no goals allowed in regulation (and overtime, if applicable). Shootout goals will not prevent a shutout, and goalies will receive points for any goals or assists they score in a game. Penalty minutes, hits, plus-minus and PP points DO NOT count in DraftKings. DraftKings lineups must include nine players (2 C, 3 W, 2 D, 1 G, 1 FLEX) and fit within the $50,000 salary cap.

Derick Brassard, C, New York Rangers

DraftKings price: $5,500

Brassard is an amazing value when the Rangers host the Boston Bruins on Monday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, TVA Sports, SN, NESN, MSG). The first-line center has been fantastic at Madison Square Garden this season with 24 (11 goals, 13 assists) of his 30 points coming in 22 home games. Brassard will try to push his point streak to three games Monday; he has one goal, one assist, three blocked shots and three shots on goal in the past two games.

Joel Ward, W, San Jose Sharks

DraftKings price: $4,700

Ward is a dependable player for DraftKings owners since the longest he's gone this season without a point is four games. The Sharks have a favorable game at the Calgary Flames on Monday (9 p.m. ET; CSN-CA, SNW). The Flames are 29th in the NHL with a 3.08 goals-against average and they allow an average of 29.2 shots per game.

Zdeno Chara, D, Boston Bruins

DraftKings price: $5,300

Chara has an assist in each of his past two games and can be a good value pick against the Rangers considering there are minimal quality defensemen to choose from on a four-game night. The Bruins captain has been better away than at home this season with 14 (three goals, 11 assists) of his 21 points coming in 18 road games.

Jacob Markstrom, G, Vancouver Canucks

DraftKings price: $6,800

Fantasy owners need to take a chance on a goaltender that likely will be lesser owned given the light schedule Monday. While the obvious choice would be to roll with Florida Panthers goalie Roberto Luongo ($8,200) as the Panthers try to extend their franchise-record winning streak to 13 when they play at the Canucks (10 p.m. ET; FS-F, SNP), grabbing the affordably priced Markstrom has the potential to provide much more bang for the buck. Markstrom is 5-5-4 record with a 2.48 goals-against average in 16 games this season but has been better recently; he's 4-2-1 with a 2.23 GAA and 202 saves on 218 shots in his past seven games.
