ARLINGTON, Va. -- Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has twice as many goals through 19 games this season as last season, but only one goal on the power play.

The Capitals play the Winnipeg Jets, who lead the NHL in penalty minutes per game, Wednesday at Verizon Center (7 p.m. ET; TSN3, CSN-DC).

The Jets have been called for 122 penalties through 22 games, most in the NHL.

Last season, Ovechkin had five goals through 19 games and four power-play goals. This season Ovechkin has nine at even-strength -- and one power-play goal.

Ovechkin could have a field day against the oft-penalized Jets. He has 84 points in 57 games against the Winnipeg franchise.

Capitals coach Barry Trotz thinks the goals will come, and while he's at it, said Ovechkin needs to work on lifting the puck when he does get it on the power play.

"I think everyone's catching on to what we do and the goalies are getting over quicker," Trotz said. "I think he's missed on a few real close, but I think a little more elevation. I think he needs a little more elevation on some of those shots. I guarantee you he's going to score a lot of goals on the power play, I just don't know when but they're going to go in bunches when they do go in."

Capitals forward T.J. Oshie said he and his teammates need to be prepared for the heavy game the Jets will bring to the table.

"They're a tough team to play against," Oshie said. "They play hard, they play physical and they never seem to go away. If you're not mentally ready to be in a physical battle, they're going to take advantage of you and they're going to turn pucks over."

Forward Andre Burakovsky will return to the play in place of Stanislav Galiev after he was healthy scratched for two games.

"Sometimes you just have to reset," Trotz said. "With [Burakovsky], we're just trying to reset him a little bit."

Defenseman Brooks Orpik will miss his seventh consecutive game with a lower-body injury. Trotz still considers Orpik's injury to be not serious and said they're playing it safe by keeping him out of the lineup.

Michael Hutchinson will start in goal for the Jets. For the Capitals, Braden Holtby will be in net.
