Abdelkader signs seven-year contract with Red Wings
Forward Justin Abdelkader signed a seven-year contract extension with the Detroit Red Wings, general manager Ken Holland announced Thursday. The contract is worth $29.75 million, an average annual value of $4.25 million, according to TSN.

Rangers focused on stopping Blues' road success
No team has more road wins than the St. Louis Blues, who will try for their fourth straight victory and eighth in 10 games away from Scottrade Center when they take on the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Thursday. Both teams are in second place in their respective conferences and have 11 wins to their credit through 15 games this season.

Bruins' Seidenberg could return against Avalanche
Boston Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg could make his season debut against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday at TD Garden. Seidenberg had back surgery Sept. 24 and was expected to be out eight weeks; if he plays against the Avalanche it will be seven weeks to the day of his surgery. Torey Krug who did not practice the past two days is also uncertain to play.

World Cup of Hockey 2016 tickets now on sale
Limited number of World Cup of Hockey 2016 passes are now available for purchase. The best-on-best tournament will run Sept. 17 through Oct. 1, 2016 in Toronto with all games played at Air Canada Centre.

Team Europe adds Jets' Maurice, names five scouts
Winnipeg Jets coach Paul Maurice as well as former NHL players Peter Bondra, Sean Burke and Lorne Henning were among six added to Team Europe's staff for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey. Team Eurrope coach Ralph Krueger has a relationship with Maurice dating back to 2008, when Maurice coached the Carolina Hurricanes and Krueger was helping with European player recruitment.
