Alexander Nylander off to impressive start in OHL

Mississauga Steelheads center Alexander Nylander is doing everything he can to live up to those lofty expectations as a projected first-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by NHL Central Scouting.

Nylander, the son of former NHL forward Michael Nylander and brother of Toronto Maple Leafs prospect William Nylander, has four goals and 10 points in seven games for the Steelheads. An A-rated skater on NHL Central Scouting's September players to watch list, Nylander has been poised and confident despite the fact he's in his first season playing in North America.

On Sunday, Nylander scored 58 seconds into overtime to give Mississauga a 3-2 win at home against the Kitchener Rangers. The 6-foot, 179-pound right-handed forward has at least one point in all but two games for the Steelheads this season.

Nylander, selected by Mississauga in the first round (No. 12) of the 2015 CHL import draft, scored his first career goal in the Ontario Hockey League on Sept. 27 in a 5-4 loss to the Sudbury Wolves. He had 15 goals and 40 points in 42 games for AIK's junior under-20 in the Sweden's SuperElit league in 2014-15. He also played three games for AIK's professional team in Allsvenskan.

William Nylander was selected No. 8 by the Maple Leafs in the 2014 NHL Draft. He has one goal and two points in two games in his second season with the Toronto Marlies in the American Hockey League this season.
