Ducks' Silfverberg sits out practice after Torres hit

Anaheim Ducks right wing Jakob Silfverberg did not practice Monday, two days after being hit in a preseason game by San Jose Sharks forward Raffi Torres.

The incident occurred at 12:45 of the first period. The NHL Department of Player Safety announced Monday that Torres has been suspended 41 games for an illegal check to the head and interference.

Silfverberg was kept out of the remainder of the game for precautionary reasons. Anaheim opens its regular season Saturday at the San Jose Sharks.

Ducks coach Bruce Boudreau hopes to have an update on Silfverberg's condition Tuesday.

"We don't play until Saturday, so it's better to be safe than sorry," Boudreau told the Ducks website.

Mike Santorelli took Silfverberg's place on a line with center Ryan Kesler and left wing Andrew Cogliano.
