Bernier, Islanders agree on one-year contract

Forward Steve Bernier and the New York Islanders agreed to terms Thursday on a one-year contract.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Newsday reported Bernier, who came to Islanders camp on a professional tryout contract, will receive $750,000.

Bernier tied his NHL-bests last season with 16 goals and 32 points in 67 games for the New Jersey Devils.

Bernier was the 16th pick in the 2003 NHL Draft by the San Jose Sharks. He has 104 goals and 224 points in 609 regular-season games with the Sharks, Buffalo Sabres, Vancouver Canucks, Florida Panthers and Devils.

Bernier has nine goals and 23 points in 68 Stanley Cup Playoff games. He had two goals and seven points in 24 postseason games in 2012 as the Devils made the Stanley Cup Final.
