Lightning hope to create more space in Game 6

DETROIT -- The Tampa Bay Lightning trail the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 in their Eastern Conference First Round series and face elimination in Game 6 on Monday (7 p.m. ET; CNBC, CBC, TVA Sports, FS-F, FS-D) at Joe Louis Arena.

After rallying for a 3-2 overtime win in Game 4 in Detroit on Thursday, the Lightning lost 4-0 at Amalie Arena on Saturday.

"We know what's at stake. After five games, we know it's not going to be easy," Tampa Bay center Brian Boyle said. "We need to win one game; it's up to us. We know what they're capable of at home."

The Red Wings and Lightning split the first two games at Joe Louis Arena in the best-of-7 series. Detroit, which finished third in the Atlantic Division, eight points behind the second-place Lightning, was 22-10-9 on home ice during the regular season, including 1-0-1 against Tampa Bay.

The Lightning, whose 262 goals led the NHL in the regular season, haven't been able to find much open space to create offense in the past three games, and they have scored three goals as a result. All three came in a 7:51 span in the third period and overtime of Game 4.

"Just watching tape and trying to figure out some different things we can do," Boyle said. "There's just not a lot of room out there. It's a little different than the regular season."

When the Lightning have gotten chances in the series, Red Wings goaltender Petr Mrazek has thwarted them.

Mrazek has a 1.92 goals-against average and .937 save percentage.

"We all want to put the puck in the net," Boyle said. "I had a couple of chances the last game."
