Goalie Ilya Sorokin made 52 saves to lead Russia past Canada 2-1 in overtime Friday at Air Canada Centre in Toronto in an exhibition game ahead of the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Sorokin (New York Islanders) faced 14, 20 and 17 shots in three periods, plus two in overtime.

Canada played without top 2015 NHL Draft prospect forward Connor McDavid, who continues to recover from a broken finger.

Forward Alexander Sharov (2015 draft eligible) scored the game-winner 3:15 into overtime.

Defenseman Joshua Morrissey (Winnipeg Jets) put Canada ahead 1-0 at 1:07 of the second period, but a power-play goal by Sergei Tolchinsky (Carolina Hurricanes) 7:03 later tied the game.

Canada goalie Zachary Fucale (Montreal Canadiens) made 18 saves.

Canada will play Sweden on Sunday at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa before ending its pretournament schedule Tuesday against Switzerland at Bell Centre in Montreal.

McDavid has targeted Sunday for a possible return to game action.

Canada opens the tournament next Friday vs. Slovakia at Bell Centre. Russia's first game is against Denmark next Friday at Air Canada Centre.
