Stars loan defenseman Julius Honka to AHL

The Dallas Stars on Tuesday loaned defenseman Julius Honka, the No. 14 pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, to Texas of the American Hockey League.

Honka, 18, had 56 points (16 goals, 40 assists) in 62 regular-season games for Swift Current of the Western Hockey League last season, his first in North America, and was tied for third on the team with two goals in six postseason games. Honka also helped Finland win a gold medal at the 2014 IIHF World Junior Championship with four points in seven games.

The Stars signed Honka to a three-year, entry-level contract in July.

Dallas also loaned five other players to Texas: forwards Justin Dowling, Radek Faksa, Curtis McKenzie and Brendan Ranford, and defenseman John Klingberg.

The Stars have 26 players remaining on their training camp roster.

The Florida Panthers on Tuesday assigned goalie Dan Ellis to San Antonio of the AHL.

Ellis, placed on waivers Sunday, is 83-76-0 with a 2.81 goals-against average and .905 save percentage in 204 NHL games with the Dallas Stars, Nashville Predators, Tampa Bay Lightning, Anaheim Ducks, Carolina Hurricanes and Panthers. Florida acquired Ellis from Dallas in exchange for Tim Thomas at the NHL Trade Deadline March 5.

The Panthers have 31 players remaining on their training camp roster.

The New Jersey Devils released defenseman Tomas Kaberle and forward Ruslan Fedotenko from their professional tryout agreements.

Kaberle, 36, played in the Czech Republic last season after finishing the 2012-13 season with the Montreal Canadiens.

Fedotenko, 35, played in the Kontinental Hockey League last season. He last played in the NHL in 2012-13 with the Philadelphia Flyers.

The Chicago Blackhawks assigned forwards Cody Bass and Pierre-Cedric Labrie to the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League.

The Blackhawks have 28 players remaining on their training camp roster.

The Vancouver Canucks assigned goalie Joacim Eriksson to Utica of the AHL.

A seventh-round pick (No. 196) of the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2008 NHL Draft, Eriksson appeared in one regular-season game for the Canucks last season. He teamed with Ryan Miller for a 3-0 preseason win against the Calgary Flames on Sept. 27.

The Edmonton Oilers reduced their training camp roster by five players. Forwards Travis Ewanyk and Mitchell Moroz, and defensemen Jordan Oesterle and Dillon Simpson, were assigned to Oklahoma City of the AHL. Forward Andrew Miller was placed on waivers for the purpose of an assignment to the Barons.

The Oilers have 38 players remaining on their camp roster.

The Buffalo Sabres reduced their training camp roster by seven players. Forwards Joel Armia, Matt Ellis and Tim Schaller, defenseman Drew Bagnall and Nick Petrecki, and goalies Nathan Lieuwen and Andrey Makarov were assigned to the Rochester Americans of the AHL.

Ellis and Bagnall will report to the Americans pending waivers.

Armia, selected No. 16 in the 2011 NHL Draft, scored 27 points in 54 games for Rochester last season, his first in the AHL, despite missing time with a broken hand. He had three goals and six points in five playoff games.

The Sabres have 30 players remaining on their training camp roster.

The Los Angeles Kings assigned forward David Van der Gulik to their AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs. The defending Stanley Cup champions have 28 players remaining on their camp roster.
