Anaheim Ducks forward Kyle Palmieri is likely to miss most of the preseason after sustaining a high ankle sprain during training, the team announced Friday.

Palmieri hopes to return for Anaheim's final preseason game against the San Jose Sharks on Oct. 4. The Ducks open the regular season at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Oct. 9.

Also, defenseman Shea Theodore will miss 4-6 weeks with an ulnar collateral ligament sprain in his right elbow, sustained in a game Sunday during a rookie tournament. Theodore, 19, was the Ducks' first-round pick (No. 26) in the 2013 NHL Draft.
